“Once you are hit with a life changing event, whether it be stress, depression or illness, your personality changes. The challenges that you were once able to face become mountains. It is easy to be harsh and compare ourselves to our best version. But we are human, and we are allowed to heal and take a break. It is about learning more about how our emotions work.”
Lived experience of mental wellness and illness
Born and raised in country Victoria, a place known for its dry plains, hot summers and bushfires, this is where her early works were inspired. Her works have since evolved to include modern abstracts and subjects such as mental health. She is an advocate for mental health awareness and suicide prevention.
Many of Lucinda’s works surround uncomfortable feelings such as vulnerability, stress, anxiety, coping strategies, dependency and the courage to reach out and seek help.
Art Therapy
Since her diagnosis of Bipolar, Major Depressive Disorder and Anxiety, Lucinda has placed a lot of effort into Art Therapy and the healing properties it has.
“I’ve always been creative and imaginative, and I feel like the Art Therapy process is a good use of those skills. It helps validate and boost my confidence.”
One of Lucinda’s goals is to become an art therapist.
